Home Sweet Home

September 27, 2007

As of yesterday Jaci, Jacob and I have been relaxing at home. We were grateful for the wonderful care Jaci and Jacob received at the hospital, but it was time to get out of there. It was a nice surprise to find out that we were coming home a day earlier than originally planned!

Jaci and I were talking about the concept of “home” and what a comforting feeling it is to be home. Obviously our real home is in MN, but this apartment is the home God has provided for us for now, and here we certainly feel relaxed. Jacob seems to be taking to his surrounds quite well.

Speaking of Jacob he is doing well. He’s been up a lot the last couple nights, but that’s to be expected. He’s been spending some time in front of the window to help ease his jaundice. We’re still amazed that God has given him to us.

Jaci is continuing to heal quickly although sometimes she forgets that sitting down to rest would be good for her. With so much going on she’s been quite exhausted, so please pray that she will take the rest she needs, and sleep well at night (when possible).

Thank you for all of your prayers and support!

Big Baby…

September 25, 2007

Hey folks!

All is well at the Seoul Womens Clinic (our current home- it’s actually in Taejon despite the name). Jaci continues to regain strength and is ready to get home. Jacob just gets cuter by the hour, and seems to be content wherever he is!

We found out today that Jacob was 55cm (21 5/8 in) when he was born. If that’s correct that puts him in the 95+ percentile group for newborn height. His birth weight of 4.02Kg (8lb 13.75 oz) puts him in the 75-95 percentile group for newborns. Now that’s a big baby!

Something most you are probably not aware of is that currently we are celebrating Chusok holiday in Korea. What does that mean? It means we have the week off of school at TCIS this week! In fact Jaci went into labor last Friday night (the start of our Chusok Break from school). Therefore I (Mike) have been able to spend every moment with Jaci and Jacob, and I haven’t had to worry about work at all. We have been reflecting on God’s timing of this whole event, and are thankful beyond words for his sovereign plan.

Anyway- I know you really come here for pictures and videos, so here you go:

More Jacob…

Thought you might like an update.  Jacob slept in the nursery last night so Jaci and I could get some rest.   Jaci is doing great today.  She’s in plenty of pain, but she is walking and eating now.  Jacob is a sweet boy.  He is cuddly, likes to take little naps and spend most of his time looking around at his new environment.

We are certainly grateful to God for our new little gift!  We are also thankful for all of the support we have received from our friends and family.

Here’s a couple more pics and a video:

Great News!

On Saturday, September 22 at 1:25pm Jaci gave birth to a healthy baby boy!  Jacob Michael Loween came into the world a sizable 4.02K (approx 8 lb 13 oz)!  Jaci labored and pushed like a champ, but eventually the doctors came to the conclusion that c-section would be the best route to take.

Jaci and Jacob are resting well tonight.  Please keep them in your prayers as Jaci heals from the surgery and Jacob adapts to a new world.

more to come…
