7.2 kg!

November 30, 2007

Admiring MirrorYay, Jacob is over 2 months old now, and at his check-up he weighed in at a healthy 7.2kg (about 15 lbs 14 oz–I think). In the last couple of weeks he has begun to coo more, grab tightly onto our shirts, and smile a little bit (when he is be full and well-rested). It has been a lot of fun to see him respond to us–I am getting excited for him to start making even more noises! He has slept through the night a few times, but not on a consistent basis, so we are still working on that. I am not too worried about it! Since I don’t have to work I haven’t really been pushing a schedule or sleeping through the night–I am just enjoying holding him while I still can (okay, so sometimes getting up at 2am isn’t always the most enjoyable).

Two more weeks until Christmas break! I am really excited to have Mike home with Jacob and me for three weeks. We decided, somewhat last minute, to travel to Hong Kong for Christmas to visit our friends Jeff, Robyn and Owen. It will be great to get out of South Korea or a little while and enjoy the company of our fellow Minnesotan friends–Oh, and see Hong Kong!

In other news, it is now official: we are moving to the dorm next year. It has been amazing to see God put the puzzle pieces of our lives together. A while back we had considered the dorm, but felt we didn’t want to enter that arena until we had a family of our own. Then BOOOM, we had Jacob, a position opened in the dorm, and we were hired! We serve an amazing God. I should really learn to quit trying to plan our future because God seems to set even better paths in front of us than I usually dream up.

Well, I know all of you really came to this site to see pictures and videos of Jacob, so I will stop with my banter. There are plenty below: ENJOY!

Making Progress

Jacob getting 1st bottleLife as new parents continues to amaze and confuse us at the same time. Learning what Jacob needs has been quite the challenge. But even when he is hard to understand we are overwhelmed by the amount of love we have for this little life that is ours to have and to hold.

The past couple weeks have been full of some firsts: first bottle, first swing ride, first responses to our voices with sounds all his own. It really came as no surpirse that Jacob took the bottle on the first try–he isn’t one to pass up food that is put infront of him. The evidence of this is that the last time he was weighed he was over 14 pounds.) I was a little caught of gaurd, however, by Jacob’s noises that seem to sometimes come as responses to our questions (see video below). I knew he was supposed to be doing this soon, but I guess I didn’t realize it would actually happen and that he would be gaining a personality so quickly.

After trying a popular parenting of infant philosophy of scheduleing and becoming stressed out, I have now decided to just figure Jacob out and go from there. So, Jacob is now adjusting to a routine that is all his own and this has helped me to learn to read his cues and figure out what he needs–most of the time we can get on the same page. Sometimes this routine includes 4-5 hours of sleep during the night which is pretty exciting for me! Most importantly this has relieved some of my stress and helped me to feel like a better Mom.

Another first of the last couple weeks has been my rise in emotions. I never quite understood why some women became so mushy and emotional after having children (crying at Hallmark commercials and that sort of thing), but now I understand. There have been a couple times in the last week when I have caught myself nearly in tears just looking at Jacob and realizing he is going to grow up so fast and that I will only be able to cuddle and rock him for a short season of life. No wonder people go crazy over babies once they have finished with that stage of life–there is just nothing like holding a baby and thinking about the potential they have and how much love they can be given. God sure knew what he was doing when he designed the mother-child relationship–it is one of the sweetest blessings that also requires all of the fruits of the spirit to be put into action on a daily basis. Talk about packaging things in a way that requires us grow.

Well, that might be enough of me pouring out my emotions and heart! Hope you all enjoyed it. If not, I am sure you will enjoy the pictures and videos posted below too!

Enjoying the fall colors

Jacob and TeddyWell, this update is going to be brief because not too much has happened to write about since the last posting. Jacob turned 6 weeks today–which is hard to believe! He is still putting on weight and growing out of his clothes too quickly.

In other news,  Jacob’s Daddy will turn 29 tomorrow! Yep, Mike is turning the big two-niner and pretty excited about it;) No big outing celebration planed since Jacob hasn’t learned to take a bottle yet.

Today we got outside and enjoyed the fall colors. Below you will find some pictures of us and the trees in their beautiful fall attire. Also, there is a short clip taken of Jacob yesterday just for all of you who like to hear, as well as, see how he is doing.
